Railway Stations
Clay Cross
Located south of Chesterfield on the Midland Main Line. This station was promoted in the ATOC Connecting Communities report published in 2009.
Donington (Lincolnshire)
Located between Spalding and Sleaford. A bid was submitted to the Restoring Your Railway – Ideas Fund.
Littleworth, Deeping St Nicholas
Located between Spalding and Peterborough. A bid was submitted to the Restoring Your Railway – Ideas Fund. Supporters of this campaign highlight the potential commuter traffic towards Peterborough.
Rushden Parkway
Located between Wellingborough and Bedford on the Midland Main Line, this proposal would create a new station to the south west of Rushden.
Wixams
Located on the Midland Main Line south of Bedford, this station was expected to be built by developer contributions from a large new housing development being built nearby.
Railway lines
A number of railway lines are being investigated as well.
East Midlands Airport chord
Rail-based access to East Midlands Airport is likely to be delivered by an extension of the Nottingham Express Transit system from the East Midlands HS2 station at Toton.
Maid Marian line
This proposal would add a regular passenger service to the Kirkby-Pye Bridge freight line providing Mansfield with a connection to the proposed HS2 station at Toton
Robin Hood line extension
This proposal would enable a regular passenger service on the freight line east of Shirebrook, with railway stations serving Edwinstone, Warsop and Ollerton
Leicester – Coalville – Burton upon Trent (Ivanhoe railway line)
A regular passenger service on the freight line between Leicester and Burton upon Trent. Subsidence due to mine workings has impacted the existing infrastructure and the current layout of railway infrastructure would prevent services from serving Leicester railway station without a reversal. Proposed railway stations include:
- Ashby de la Zouch
- Bagworth
- Coalville
- Gresley
- Kirby Muxloe
- Moira
Matlock – Buxton
Recreate the Peak District railway line that ran from Matlock towards Buxton and Chinley via Monsal Dale.
Service and Infrastructure Enhancements
Corby northern service improvement
Improve the railway services north of Corby railway station towards Melton and Derby. Currently there are four trains timetabled per day north of Corby.
Hello
Rushden, Northampton is a rapidly growing community that would greatly benefit from having a new train station. This would significantly help open up both work and leisure opportunities for local people. Please can you let me know if there has been any further progress on this proposal?
Many thanks
P Charnock
Hello P Charnock
Thank you for your question. Sorry for the slow response. Following the ATOC Connecting Communities report there does not appear to have been any progress made to open a railway station on the Midland Mainline near Rushden. The current period is a good time to progress a campaign as work gets underway to extend electrification from Bedford to Corby and Sheffield. This will offer more opportunities for trains to stop with more train services and better acceleration. My advice would be to ask RailFuture if they are aware of any group involved in railway service improvements in this area. I am sorry that I cannot offer better news on progress.
Kind regards
Peter
