Railway Stations

This section covers railway stations on existing lines.

Addenbrookes (Cambridge South)

Located south of Cambridge railway station, near Addenbrookes hospital, this station would add a third railway station to the main north-south railway line through Cambridge.

Beaulieu Park

Located north east of Chelmsford on the Great Eastern Main Line (GEML), this station will serve a new development being built in Boreham. It will be located between Chelmsford and Hatfield Peverel. The station may also just be called Beaulieu.

Broadland Business Park

Located in east Norwich, this proposed railway station would be located on the the Bittern line between Norwich and Sheringham. The station is also known as Dussindale.

Cherry Hinton

Located between Cambridge and Newmarket, Cherry Hinton is one of two proposals on this section of railway line, with the other being Fulbourn located east of this proposal.

Essex University

This station would be located south east of Hythe, Colchester on the Colchester – Clacton railway line.

Fulbourn

Located between Cambridge and Newmarket.

Hampton

Proposed railway station on the East Coast Main Line, which would be located a few miles south of Peterborough.

Tempsford

New railway station located on the East Coast Mainline (ECML). Some proposals mark this station as a replacement for Sandy station.

Waterbeach (relocation)

As part of plans to develop a new town on the site of the former army barracks, it has been proposed that the railway station located on the Cambridge to Ely line is relocated north east.

East West Railway (Phase 2)

Hunstanton – Kings Lynn

Haverhill – Cambridge

Haverhill – Sudbury

Maldon – Witham

Mildenhall – Fordham

Newmarket West chord

Wisbech – March

There is also a campaign to develop a Cambridge Metro that would encompass a number of the projects noted on this page.

There are also a small number of schemes for enhancing heritage railways including the Norfolk Orbital Railway and Leiston Works Railway.

  1. The line from Sudbury to Cambridge should be reopened providing that they are made accessible for disabled people.
