Budget supports several railway schemes

Several proposed railway schemes have been mentioned in the Budget today (Wednesday 3 March).

£40m to support regular services between Exeter and Okehampton subject to final approval of contracts and costs. It is provided through the Restoring your Railway initiative.

£59m confirmed towards five railway station in the West Midlands with a further £50m for transport improvements around the HS2 station at Birmingham Interchange.

Up to £30m of match funding for a Global Centre for Rail Excellence in Wales enabling the testing of rolling stock and infrastructure.

£7.4m allocated to West Yorkshire Combined Authority to develop a mass transit network.
