Further changes made to Northumberland line plans

A new request for a screening opinion has been made to the councils on the railway line between Newcastle and Ashington following changes to the proposals. Both councils concluded that an Environmental Impact Assessment was not required following a previous request for a screening opinion last summer. A summary of the changes has been listed below:

  • Land identified and reserved for parking at Blyth Bebside, Ashington and Seaton Delaval
  • Closure of the level crossing at Newsham and replaced with a newly constructed bridge. The station would be located on the site of Newsham station
  • Two foot crossings would be replaced with a footbridge or underpass
  • Bebside station would be relocated
  • Refinement of the land required during construction
  • A new railway depot may be required at Cambois or Furnace Way sidings if the services are operated by a new operator on a Concession rather than the Franchise model

It is expected that a similar response to the previous application will be received.
