Bensham curve application submitted to Restoring your Railway Ideas fund

Three MPs are supporting an application to the June round of the Restoring your Railway Ideas fund for restoring the Bensham curve. If built, heavy rail or Tyne and Wear Metro rolling stock could serve Team Valley and Low Fell without consuming substantial capacity on the East Coast Main Line.

The proposed curve is located in Gateshead connecting the Newcastle – Carlisle railway with the south facing chord that is primarily used by freight trains enabling them to travel between Tyne Yard and Carlisle.
