Doncaster Sheffield Airport rail link proposals submitted to government

The Sheffield City Region, Doncaster Council and the Peel Group (owners of Doncaster Sheffield Airport) have taken a major step forward today by submitting an outline business case to the Government for a 4.5 mile railway line which would connect Doncaster Airport to the railway network. The submission seeks to include the project in the Department for Transport (DfT’s) Rail Network Enhancements Pipeline.

The proposed GatewayEast Growth Hub Rail scheme would leave the East Coast Mainline north of Bawtry, pass through the Doncaster Sheffield Airport site and join the Doncaster-Lincoln railway line near Auckley.

The business case requests £300m of government investment and with prompt backing, it could be delivered by 2025.
