The West of England mayor has discussed plans to develop the rail network in the region with the Transport Secretary. The plans include reopening the railway station serving Henbury and putting forward light rail/tram-train as an option for restoring the railway services to Portishead. This could see state-of-the-art trains operating without the need for heavy rail infrastructure. The possibility of tram trains similar to those used in other major cities across the United Kingdom will also be explored.
