The campaign to restore passenger services to Middlewich are awaiting a report from WSP that is studying the case for reopening the line.
Our Campaign is moving on rapidly. Along with fellow Campaign members Fiona Bruce MP and Simon Barber, our Chairman, Stephen Dent, today met with consultants WSP who are undertaking the study on the re-opening of our line for passengers with new stations at Middlewich and Gadbrook Park. The WSP team are extremely professional and seemed to have a firm grasp of the aims of the project. In particular, they will be looking at a service being operated well before the construction of the new HS2 Crewe Hub Station. They intend to produce a report within three months setting out a long list of options.
When this current work is completed, a report will go to the Secretary of State for Transport with recommendations. It is hoped that this will lead on to the consultants preparing a full business case starting early in the new year.
There will be no Campaign meetings until after the list of options is produced when it is hoped that WSP will give a presentation to all Campaign members, so we can have our say in the outcome.
Please watch this space for notice of the date of this landmark meeting.
It has been recognised that people across the region could benefit from the route being restored.
Frustration has been expressed that this study is covering work completed in 2008.
