Durham County Council consults on Horden

Durham County Council has opened a consultation into the site for a potential railway station at Horden serving the East Durham area on the railway line between Sunderland and Hartlepool.

A site at South East View has been chosen following consideration of various sites in this area. The site has a number of benefits.

  • level ground and large open site
  • space for a large car park to be located next to the station
  • potential opportunity to extend bus service into the station
  • good road access into the station

The station is expected to have two platforms, waiting shelter and a car park with upto 100 spaces. It would be unstaffed.

The consultation closes on 20th October.

  1. I think this is a great idea. It will really benefit Horden and Peterlee. It will make it easier to get to work and more potential work in other towns, creating more prospects for people. Please build the railway!

    1. I certainly agree Nicholas. This railway station will be transformational for this area. Hopefully, this proposal will be a successful bid for funding from the New Stations Fund.
