Borders Railway reaches first anniversary

It is a year since the Borders Railway opened. Over a million passenger journeys have been made on the route, with it expected to surpass passenger forecasts. Benefits have been felt by local attractions who have reported increases in visitor numbers.

Although the route has been successful, reliability has been a concern, with trains struggling with the steep gradients on the line. The transport minister has called for an operational review to improve reliability.
