Belford Railway Station nears completion of GRIP 4

The proposal to open a railway station at Belford in Northumberland is nearing the completion of GRIP 4. The proposed railway station was one of the nine proposals that missed out on funding as part of the New Stations Fund. The next steps will depend on funding committed by the LTP for 2014-15.

The proposal to provide a station platform, car park and access road
alongside the east coast main line near the location of the former Belford
Station, is included in the LTP Programme 2013-14. This funding has been
provided to complete the Network Rail Governance of Rail Infrastructure
Projects (GRIP) stage 4. Work on GRIP 4 is nearing completion and
information from the study can be made available in due course.

A bid to fund the provision of the station platform was made to the DfT’s
New Stations Fund in February 2013, but it was unsuccessful. Further
funding for the project is being considered in the draft LTP programme for
2014-15. The draft programme will be consulted on at the Council’s Area
Committee meetings in March 2014 before a programme is recommended for
approval to the Executive Director of Place and the Policy Board Member
for Streetcare and Environment.
