Fife Council have announced that they will be awarding a £30k transport study into the implications of reopening the Longannet railway line.
Rail tours operating along the Longannet line show the potential for the introduction of regular train services between Dunfermline and Glasgow via Kincardine. The steam hauled trains are being run a month before a transport study is released in September adding further weight to calls to restore services.
The Railfuture Scotland campaign group has backed the restoration of the Alloa to Dunfermline link with stations at Clackmannan and Kincardine.
The proposal to extend train services from Alloa to Dunfermline as a result of the closure of Longannet Power Station could lead to the reopening of Clackmannan railway station. The idea was proposed by the local development trust on social media.
