The former Buchan railway line has received protection from development within the settlement boundary of Ellon. This has been extended from the former railway station at Ellon.
Fifty years on from the closure of the railway line serving Ripon, the local press have published a number of articles that cover the progress that is being made with regards to the campaign to reopen the railway line.
The extension of the South Tynedale Railway from Lintley Halt to Slaggyford is expected to open in the late Spring.
Plans have been submitted for a railway station at Robroyston following the agreement of funding earlier this year. A two platform railway station will be delivered as part of this programme with 150m platforms that can accommodate 6 car trains.
Low Moor railway station on the railway line between Bradford Interchange and Halifax is expected to open on Sunday 2 April with the first train at approximately 0830. The station has been impacted by construction delays caused by a mine shaft under the site.
Two stations are set to join the Northern Rail network on 2 April 2017 with Ilkeston also expected to open on the same day.
A number of photos have been taken showing the progress being made at the construction site of Kenilworth railway station. It is expected to open in December 2017.
Kirkstall Forge has surpassed its first year target after just five months. Over 20,000 passengers have used the railway station that opened on 19 June 2016.
A number of proposals to develop the rail network serving the South East in the draft Kent Area Route Study that is currently out for consultation. The consultation opened on 14 March 2017 for three months.
Ebbsfleet Southern Link
A scheme has been developed that could provide a connection to Ebbsfleet International from the line that runs from HS1 to Fawkham Junction, which was formerly used by Eurostars to access London Waterloo. It has been recently used to store Eurostars. This proposal would offer an alternative route into Ebbsfleet and a helpful route from south London.
Two chords have been proposed between the Ashford to Canterbury West and Faversham to Canterbury East lines. A western chord in the Chartham area could create a direct route between Faversham and Ashford improving north-south connectivity across Kent. A southern chord could improve network resilience with the exposed railway line between Folkestone and Dover.

An underground loop line serving the north and east of Liverpool has been proposed as a potential development for the rail network. It has been suggested that it could be called the Sergeant Pepper line.
A railway station has been proposed towards the north of Bishop’s Stortford during a meeting of the local chamber of commerce. All key stakeholders have advised that they are not currently intending to move forward with Bishop’s Stortford North railway station.
London TravelWatch is to lobby TfL to construct a stop on the Bakerloo line extension serving Bricklayers Arms. A ventilation shaft is proposed for the area.
Two MP’s have called for Camberwell railway station on the Thameslink railway line to be reopened. The proposed railway station would be located between Elephant and Castle and Loughborough Junction.
Transport for London have reported that the Croxley rail link that will extend the Metropolitan line to Watford Junction requires an additional £50m to be completed.
The MP for Gower is to meet the Welsh Office minister to discuss the feasibility of a Swansea Parkway railway station after it was mentioned by the MP last week.
The Rother District Council Planning Committee has approved the restoration of the heritage railway between Northbridge Street (Robertsbridge) and Junction Road (Bodiam). Concerns have been raised with regards to the impact of the level crossings on the local road network.
