John Laing Infrastructure are working with Network Rail to investigate the feasibility of building the railway station at Addenbrookes. If no major infrastructure works are required to develop the station, it has been suggested that it could be built without public money. It is understood that there are potential timetable implications to deliver this railway station.
During a meeting of the West Anglia Taskforce, the rail minister confirmed that the DfT would be working closely with Cambridge County Council to deliver a proposed railway station at Addenbrookes as soon as they can.
Cambridge County Council is very keen to see a railway station built in southern Cambridge but only as part of an upgrade to railway lines in that area.
A new railway station at Addenbrookes has been proposed in the Greater Cambridge and Greater Peterborough LEP bid to the Local Growth Fund.
Railfuture have published a report that considers the potential for a high frequency metro style service serving lines into Cambridge as part of the City Deal. The network would add to the East West Rail and Thameslink service enhancements by opening the route to Haverhill and reopening the Newmarket curve.
Railway stations are proposed at:
- Cherry Hinton
- Coldhams Lane
- Science Park
- Waterbeach Barracks
There are eleven railway stations proposed in East Anglia.
In addition, there are a number of new railway lines proposed through the area.
